Artspace makes floor talks readily available

As an exciting addition to its range of public programs, Artspace Mackay now records exhibition floor talks on MP3 players to make them more accessible to the wider public.

Artspace Mackay exhibition floor talks are mostly delivered by curators and artists involved in exhibitions, and aim to give visitors insight into the rationale of both the exhibition as a whole, as well as deeper understanding of artists’ works.

Held the day after an exhibition opens, the floor talks are always popular with people of all ages and backgrounds.

Until now, if locals weren’t able to make it to the floor talk, they simply missed out.

With this innovative new approach visitors can now download the floor talk from Artspace Mackay’s website or simply visit the gallery, borrow an MP3 player with headphones and listen to the floor talk while viewing the exhibition.

The extremely popular Namatjira to Now, a Queensland Art Gallery touring exhibition is currently on show in the Artspace Mackay’s McAleese Gallery until 31 October.

A fascinating floor talk was given by Associate Curator in Indigenous Australian Art at Queensland Art Gallery, Bruce McLean.

Bruce’s insight and knowledge of Namatjira and the Indigenous Australian artists of the Hermannsberg School makes this floor talk one of Artspace Mackay’s most interesting and enjoyable ones to date.

If you missed the Namatjira to Now floor talk, visit www.artspacemackay.com.au to download, or come in and borrow one of Artspace Mackay’s MP3 players, collect a map of works and enjoy the exhibition with an informative audio component.
