Celebrate drawing with a free art day

Artspace Mackay is hosting a free family drawing activity day, Drawing Life for Kids this weekend on Saturday, January 14 from 10am to 1pm.

Visitors of all ages will have the opportunity to release their inner artist and experiment with different kinds of drawing materials while exploring a variety of wonderful techniques and having lots of fun.

Director of Community Services Gerard Carlyon said this day will be such a great opportunity for families within the region to explore their creative side.

“Visitors might even try using drawing materials and techniques they’ve never experienced in their lives before,” he said.

Families can take part in several drawing ‘activity stations’ situated throughout the gallery which will help children to challenge their ideas about drawing.

Parents are required to stay with their children on the day; however, they can expect to thoroughly enjoy the experience as the inspiring activities can be responded to on a variety of levels.

Mr Carlyon encourages families to take the time for some creative therapy during the final weeks of the holidays and participate in Drawing Life for Kids.

“Artspace Mackay regularly put on extremely popular activity days like this one, and many who join in end up staying for the entire day, and eagerly await the next one.”

Inspired by the Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) blockbuster exhibition, Matisse: Drawing Life Exhibition on show at GOMA until March 4, Drawing Life for Kids harnesses Matisse’s love of drawing and encourages children to express themselves using line, shape, colour and anything else they can imagine.

Come along and draw to your heart’s content – no bookings necessary. For more information phone Artspace Mackay on 4961 9722 or visit www.artspacemackay.com.au.
