Kids Art Club brings out the creative side in children
Kids Club is back for another year at Artspace Mackay with an exciting program of art activities tailored especially for the creative children of the Mackay region.
The six-week, term-based program kicks off on Saturday, February 26 and sees renowned local artist, Rosemary Payne deliver a rich series of art lessons inspired by the exhibitions showing throughout the year.
Each week, children between the ages of 6 to 12 years are encouraged to explore and respond to the works shown in the gallery and use a variety of mediums to produce their own works of art.
Community Services and Facilities portfolio councillor Karen May said the program varies from week to week in both the amount of time spent on each piece and the materials they use.
“The children work with anything from paints and pastels to charcoal and ink, even some very elaborate sculptural pieces for a fascinating tactile experience,” Cr May said.
Rosemary Payne’s many years of experience working with children has allowed her to develop an array of activities just for kids that teach them invaluable skills they can apply later on in life.
Artspace Mackay’s exciting program of exhibitions in 2011 will also offer plenty of inspiration to draw upon, with photography, printmaking and graffiti all on show in the first term of Kids Art Club.
Cr May said MAYS: the May Lane street art project, is just one of the exciting exhibitions Artspace will have on show this year.
“It will be very bold and colourful and will showcase work from some of the best graffiti artists internationally,” she said.
“The colours and graphics specifically in that exhibition are sure to get the creative juices flowing in the young minds of Kids Art Club.”
