Popular Artspace exhibition closes early

The Australian War Memorial touring exhibition, Perspectives, on show at Artspace Mackay must close one week ahead of schedule due to special upgrades to the gallery’s lighting system.

Due to now close this Saturday (March 17), Artspace Mackay Acting Director Anna Thurgood encourages everyone to see this insightful exhibition before it comes down.

“Perspectives is a powerful exhibition by two artists commissioned by the Australian War Memorial to document themes relating to Australian peacekeeping in East Timor and the Solomon Islands,” Ms Thurgood said.

The exhibition has proved extremely popular with residents and visitors, so if you haven’t been to see it, make your way to Artspace Mackay any day this week up until Saturday 5pm.

Mayor Col Meng acknowledges that the unscheduled early closure might disappoint some visitors but feels that the community will be thrilled to know that Artspace Mackay is installing a long-awaited, environmentally friendly lighting system.

“Council has been working hard to gain funding that sees Artspace Mackay lead other regional galleries in an effort to be more environmentally sustainable,” Cr Meng said.

“This innovative new system will mean significant reduction of lighting power use in the Cox Rayner and McAleese galleries.”

Don’t miss out on seeing Perspectives at Artspace Mackay from 10am to 5pm daily until this Saturday in the McAleese Gallery.
