Tate Adams' Gift Tate Adams' contribution to the arts in North Queensland has long been recognised. He was one of Australia's early initiators in the field of printmaking and limited edition books. To celebrate the opening of Artspace Mackay, Tate Adams, Royal Engraver and Principal of the Lyre Bird Press, has generously gifted over three hundred items including works on paper, artists' books, wood blocks and reference books. This gift was added to an already significant collection of over three hundred artists' books and one hundred works on paper, instigated by Mackay City Library. The specialist Artist's Book Collection began in 1995 with the purchase of Australian and overseas artists' books. The Collection is very impressive in its scope, especially considering its short history, and its rare examples of the work of the most important book artists working in Queensland and Australia give visitors access to a fine resource. |
