Shaping Mackay Shaping Mackay

Did you know that in 1918 a major cyclone nearly destroyed Mackay? Did you know that one of the region's most famous residents was the opera singer Dame Nellie Melba? How about the growth of the sugar industry in the region.

To find out more about these questions and others that you may have about Mackay and its region you should visit the About Mackay display at the Old Town Hall in Sydney Street. This informative display includes information about famous residents, major events and the community of Mackay.

About Mackay was developed for the Old Town Hall by the Queensland Heritage Trails Network and is located on the ground floor of this beautiful heritage building next to the Visitor Information Centre operated by Mackay Tourism.
