Annual Appeal 2020
Major acquisition made possible by donor support
The collective support of donors through the Artspace Mackay Foundation 2020 Annual Appeal has enabled Artspace Mackay to acquire Nudes, an artist’s book by John Brack, one of Australia’s iconic twentieth century artists. This is a major acquisition of historical and cultural significance to Artspace Mackay and the Mackay Regional Council Art Collection.
John Brack was born in Melbourne in 1920, and his work first achieved prominence in the 1950s. For over forty years he was at the forefront of Australian art and produced some of our most iconic images.
Nudes is an artist’s book produced by Lyre Bird Press in 1982 featuring fifteen lithograph prints by John Brack, bound in a hard-covered folio with leather spine. As the only deluxe art book produced by Brack in his lifetime, printed by the iconic North Queensland-based Lyre Bird Press, this rare work is a significant and valuable addition to the Mackay Regional Council Art Collection, which is widely renowned for its large holding of artists’ books.
