Professional development (artists and educators)

In conjunction with our adult workshop program, Artspace Mackay offers Professional Development workshops for artists, artsworkers, early childhood, primary & secondary school teachers, and tertiary students.

The PD workshops are delivered by Artspace staff and experienced gallery educators from nationally recognised institutions including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney (MCA), Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of modern art, (QAGOMA) and the National Gallery of Australia (NGA).

Professional development

Education participants learn new ways to inspire their students with contemporary art including a range of innovative and creative learning strategies, and methods for thinking about art in new and exciting ways. Discussion of ideas for the classroom as well as exploration of new digital resources and tools during the workshops inspires participants to continue the discussions beyond the gallery and back into the classroom.

Artists and artsworkers who take part in these PD workshops have the opportunity to learn alongside teachers and also benefit from being inspired by the skills, techniques and ideas of exhibiting artists. These workshops are also great to develop a better understanding of curatorial rationales and approaches, and ways to link with school audiences by deepening their understanding of learning curriculum.

Practical art making techniques often form part of the PD workshops, inspiring teachers of all levels to respond and be inspired by the works on show at Artspace Mackay.
