PUBLIC ART WORKSHOPS

Youth Digital Art + Spray
Free workshops with Sydney artists Jason Wing & Maddison Gibbs.

Join us for a free digital art and spray workshop with Sydney based artists Jason Wing (Biripi people) and Maddison Gibbs (Barkindji people) who will facilitate two 3 hr sessions sharing their skills in digital street art design and application. This workshop will take you from digital design to how to spray paint your image onto a wall. There are 2 workshop locations to choose from, and the workshop series will culminate with Youth Fest 2024, another great free and inclusive celebration. All materials and sustenance will be provided including ipads, masks, gloves and old clothing, food and drinks.

Young people 12-25 – choose a location:
SARINA: 2-5pm Wednesday 10 April, Neptune’s Cafe, Grand Central, Sarina.
MIRANI: 2-5pm Thursday 11 April, Mirani Hall Park, 1 Caroline Street, Mirani.

Youth Fest 2024
Celebrate youth week with a free public art spray paint session.

If you’re aged 12-25, celebrate youth week with a free and fun evening of live music, spray paint and  - thanks to Mackay Youth Council  - slushies and popcorn! Complete with a bean bag chillout area, this creative laneway location is a refreshing spot to bring your friends and fam to just hang out, get spray-painting advice from Sydney based artists Jason Wing and Maddison Gibbs (who will be working onsite for the evening), be entertained by great local band Noise, and enjoy free slushies and popcorn. If you plan to try your hand at the spray cans, don’t wear your best clothes. We’ll provide all the necessary paint masks, drop sheets, spray paint, as well as free food and drinks.

PUBLIC ART WALKS

Public Art Walks
Free afternoon guided walks exploring Mackay’s public art.

Hosted by Artspace Mackay Public Art Officer, Jennifer Dalton-Smith, these free city art walks for all ages begin at Artspace Mackay and take you through the city centre. Along the way, participants will learn about Mackay’s iconic public art installations, and the local, and internationally-acclaimed artists who created them. Whether you’re an artist, art lover, local or visitor to our lovely riverside city, you’ll find these afternoon or morning public art walks a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Bring friends, family members, or come by yourself - wear a hat, comfortable shoes, bring a bottle of water, and arrive promptly to Artspace Mackay as the group will depart on time.
