Be part of a class of twelve and make your own lino cut in a fun one-day workshop! During this Mountains to Reef  themed workshop, everyone from beginners to experienced artists will use lino tools to carve images, designs and patterns into their piece of lino. Once complete, each printing block will be joined together like a puzzle to make a jumbo-sized lino artwork ready for printing. These jumbo prints will be printed on The BIG PRINT! Day at Artspace Mackay during the Mackay Region Festival of Arts on Sunday the 29 July. When booking, clarify which Sunday workshop date works for you.

Birds of Wire Sculpture Workshop with Levee Wall Mural artist Margaret Burgess

Sunday 5 August 10am - 3pm | Artspace Workshop Room

Participants will meet at the Upon The Levee Wall Mural in River Street at 9am for a guided walk along the 306m long mural and an opportunity to sketch some of the many birds featured in the mural. Following the tour participants will join experienced tutor Margaret Burgess at Artspace where they will learn the basic principles of sculpture and explore various materials, tools and techniques used to make wire sculptures. Participants will then use these skills to translate their sketches from the mural into a Bird of Wire sculpture.

Textile Jellyfish Workshop with Levee Wall Mural artist Tracey Robb

Sunday 12 August 10am - 3pm | Artspace Workshop Room

Join Tracey for a one-day workshop learning to use pre loved clothing and yarn to make a Textile Jellyfish. The morning will start with a walk along the Levee Wall Mural in River Street, looking at the history of Mackay and discussing the process used to produce the 306m long mural. Workshop participants will then meet Tracey at Artspace where she will teach and demonstrate the methods used to strip and spin pre-loved clothing into fabric cords to create a coil work Jellyfish Bell with flowing tentacles. The finished piece will be attached to a hanging loop and various forms of embellishment will be demonstrated to apply the finishing touches to your masterpiece.

Paint Pouring Workshop with Levee Wall Mural artist Andrea Wright

Sunday 19 August 10am - 3pm  | Artspace Workshop Room

During this fun paint pouring workshop participants will learn how to use fluid acrylics in an exciting way. Using artist quality paints and mediums, Andrea will teach participants how to manipulate the paints to achieve some stunning results and create their own unique abstract artwork. The morning will begin with a guided walk and talk along the 306m River Street Levee Wall Mural, giving participants the opportunity to ask questions, breath in some fresh salty morning air and gain some inspiration before making their way back to Artspace to begin the workshop.
What to bring: sketch pad & pencil, old clothing and/or apron; disposable gloves (optional); 3 canvasses (approx. 10"x 8"), your smile and a sense of fun.

Wraparound Journal Workshop with Levee Wall Mural artist May Mosshammer 

Sunday 26 August 10am - 3pm | Artspace Workshop Room

Participants will gather at the 306m long Upon The Levee Wall Mural in River Street at 9am for a guided tour of the mural and opportunity to gather inspiration, ideas and concepts for creating a journal  during the workshop. Following the tour the class will travel to Artspace to begin the exciting workshop under the guidance of award winning artist May Mosshammer.  Participants will learn to create a simple sewn page journal which has an extended personalised cover that adds strength without weight. The cover can contain hidden messages, images or secrets that can only be seen when  fully unfolded. During the workshop participants will play, explore and experiment using different papers, personal memorabilia, stamping, collage, layers and printing, or whatever takes their fancy to make a creative journal. This workshop is targeted at all imaginative minds and skill levels.

Sunday 2 September 9am - 3pm | Artspace Workshop Room

Join Sue for a one-day workshop learning skills in Pencil Sketching, Water Colour and Pen. The morning will start with a walk along the Levee Wall Mural in River Street, looking at the history of Mackay and gathering inspiration from the historical images. During the guided walk participants will learn simple sketching techniques and be encouraged to take photos to use as reference later in the workshop. Workshop participants will then travel to Artspace to spend a relaxing day learning how to create a Pencil Sketch,  Water Colour, and Pen Work.
What to bring: A5 or A6 Water Colour Friendly Sketch Book.
